Emphasis in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology
Over 40 years of training bilingual speech-language pathologists.
Our EBSLP is a specialized track that focuses on speech and language development and disorders in children and communication disorders in adults who are linguistically and culturally diverse.
EBSLP students are equipped with clinical techniques for identifying, assessing and managing communication disorders through diverse clinical experiences with bilingual children and adults, and are prepared to provide clinical services to a broad range of individuals with communication disorders upon graduation.
The Hispanic-Latino population is the fastest-growing group in Texas and the country exhibiting great diversity in language, ethnicity and race. Many individuals speak Spanish, English or a combination of both.
Despite similar needs for speech, language, hearing and swallowing services as other backgrounds, the linguistic diversity presents a unique challenge for assessment and treatment of communication disorders. Meeting these needs requires speech-language pathologists fluent in Spanish with advanced training.
The EBSLP track was established in the late 1970s and was the first federally funded bilingual SLP training in the U.S.
Since 1982, over 100 professionals have graduated from our program, contributing to successful careers in speech-language pathology and serving diverse communities.
The Master of Science (MS) education program in speech-language pathology {residential} is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.
