Dr. D. Lynn Jackson, PhD, LCSW, ACSW, FNAP, an Emeritus Professor of Professional Practice in Social Work, will be recognized on the national stage during the 2026 NASW National Conference in Washington D.C. this summer as the National Association of Social Wokers Foundation honor her as the 2025 NASW Social Work Pioneer.
Dr. Jackson has made groundbreaking contributions to the social work practice, education and advocacy, particulary focused on advancing access to care and equity for underserved populations. Dr. Jackson's career spans more than four decades, reflecting her commitment to social justice, leadership and impact to the profession.

Two Harris College of Nursing & Health Science faculty members are being recognized with 2026 Deans’ Awards for their dedication and excellence in teaching, research and creativity.
Deans’ Award for Teaching 2026 - Lisette Saleh, associate professor of nursing, leads her classroom by prioritizing innovation, consistent student engagement, mentorship and integrating teachings into practice. “I would not be the nurse I am today and will become without Dr. Saleh’s guidance, advice, and support,” a former student said. “I could not imagine having a better role model in my life than her!”
Deans’ Award for Research and Creativity 2026 - Gina Alexander, professor of nursing, is known as an educator and researcher, prioritizing her research contributions to environmental-based health care. By bringing people together for important projects, Alexander has made a lasting impact both individually and collectively in her community through mental wellness and health promotion. “I have consistently been impressed with her intellectual rigor, strategic insight and creative vision,” a colleague said.

From health care to human performance, Harris College students earned top recognition at the 2026 Student Research Competition for research tackling real-world challenges.
Commencement this year comes in a two-part celebration, starting with a university-wide ceremony on Friday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. at the Amon G. Carter Stadium. The Harris College of Nursing & Health Science Convocation is on Saturday, May 9 at 5:15 p.m. at the Schollmaier Arena.
